Our take on the fabled Fender® Wide Range Humbucker pickup – In the 70s Fender® employed pickup guru and inventor of the Gibson® Humbucker, Seth Lover to work on a unique pickup offering players a hum free alternative to Gibson’s PAF while retaining a distinctly Fender like chime. With adjustable CuNiFe magnetic alloy pole pieces and a steel plate that help spread the magnetic field into the wider coils, Seth Lover’s design retains much of the spank and clarity of Fender’s single coil offerings, however didn’t prove as popular as expected during its initial production run. It perhaps wasn’t until the late80s/90s when players like Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth rediscovered the Wide Range Humbucker for his Jazzblaster guitars that this fantastic design began to be fully appreciated.

Our Wide Range Humbuckers use real CuNiFe threaded magnets (yes you read that right) not the FeCrCo or Alnico magnets found in most boutique WRHBs. For many years CuNiFe has been difficult if not impossible to source. We may be the only pickup maker using CuNiFe magnets outside the Fender® Custom shop. Using correct sized bobbins and custom steel reflector plates, Nickel plated polished covers (other cover options available on request).

Note these Wide Ranges are sized the same as the original Fender pickup and are larger than a standard humbucker, with four height adjustment screws rather than two. If you are looking for a drop in replacement for a standard humbucker route you may like our CuNiFe PAF sized Wide Range Humbucker.

    Great Pickup!

My favorite Neck Humbucker Pickup up to this point!
At first very sensitive to height adjustment, but amazing, when you find your personal sweet spot position.
Very dynamic not only in terms of loudness, but also tonality, when it is paired with overdrive, cleans up very well and is maybe with the exception of some mini humbuckers, which lack character in comparison, one of the clearest sounding ones, especially with one, or better two 1meg pots.

(I am currently using one 1meg volume and a 500k tone, because it is running in a serial / parallel wiring, which is very usable here)
